Janazah Dua (Full Complete Text)

Transliteration

Allahumma inna hadha abduka wabnu abdika wabnu amatik, kana yashhadu an la ilaha illa anta wahdaka la sharika lak, wa-anna Muhammadan abduka wa-rasuluk. Allahumma inni la aalamu ma indaka, wa-in in kana muhsinan fazid fi ihsanihi ilayk, wa-in kana musi-an fa-tajawaz anhu. Allahummaj-alhu lana faratan wa-salafan wa-ajran wa-dhukhra

Translation

O Allah! This is Your servant, the son of Your servant and the son of Your maidservant. He used to bear witness that there is no god but You alone, with no partner, and that Muhammad is Your servant and messenger. O Allah! I do not know what is with You, but if he was a doer of good, increase his good towards You, and if he was a sinner, then pardon him. O Allah! Make him for us a predecessor, a forerunner, a reward, and a treasure.

Day Traditions & Recitations

3rd Day

On the third day after the passing, it is recommended to recite Quran, give Sadaqah, and make Dua for the deceased. Recite Surah Al-Fatiha and offer food to the needy in their memory.

7th Day

On the seventh day, gather family and friends to recite Quran and Duas for the deceased. It is recommended to recite Ziyarat Ashura, give Sadaqah, and make Dua for forgiveness and mercy.

40th Day (Chehlum)

On the fortieth day, it is recommended to hold a majlis, recite Quran, and give Sadaqah. Recite Ziyarat Arbaeen and make Dua for the deceased. This is a significant day of remembrance and prayer.

How to Offer Fatiha, Salawat, and Sadaqah

To offer Fatiha for the deceased, recite Surah Al-Fatiha with the intention of sending its reward to the departed soul. Recite Salawat (Allahumma salli ala Muhammad wa ali Muhammad) and give Sadaqah (charity) in their name. These acts benefit the soul of the deceased and bring peace to their family.

  1. Make the intention (Niyyah) that the reward of your recitation goes to the deceased
  2. Recite Surah Al-Fatiha once
  3. Recite Salawat three times: Allahumma salli ala Muhammad wa ali Muhammad
  4. Give Sadaqah (charity) in their name — food, money, or any good deed
  5. Make Dua for their forgiveness and mercy

May Allah grant your loved one the highest ranks of Paradise, fill their grave with light, and give you and your family beautiful patience (Sabr-e-Jameel). Know that the soul never dies — it returns to Allah. Your Duas, Sadaqah, and good deeds on their behalf continue to benefit them. The Prophet (S.A.W.W) said: 'When a person dies, their deeds end except three: continuous charity, beneficial knowledge, and a righteous child who prays for them.' 🤲
