How to PrayWudhu, adhan and every step of the salah

Yasin • Ar-Rahman • Waqiah • Mulk — recited tonight in this order. Tap any surah to open it.

The night the khatam is kept for

Thursday night is the night of Jumu'ah, the night that belongs to the Prophet (s.a.w.w) and his holy family. Families sit after Maghrib, recite these four surahs in one sitting, and gift the reward to the Prophet, to the Ahlulbayt (A.S), and to their own departed.

Yasin

It is widely narrated that the Prophet (s.a.w.w) said: “Everything has a heart, and the heart of the Quran is Yasin.” It is read for the sick, for the worried, and for those who have left this world.

Ar-Rahman

The surah of gratitude. Its refrain, “Which of the favours of your Lord will you deny?”, is answered by the one who recites it, and the heart is left softer than it began.

Al-Waqiah

It is widely narrated that whoever recites Al-Waqiah every night is kept from poverty. Families read it on Thursday for rizq, for work, and for a house that does not go short.

Al-Mulk

It is widely narrated that Al-Mulk stands at the head of the grave and intercedes, so it is read last, as a shield placed over the one who recited it and over the souls it was gifted to.

The reward of the khatam is then gifted — to the Prophet and his family, to Imam Husayn (A.S) and the martyrs of Karbala, and by name to the relatives of that household who have passed. This is the practice of our elders: a Thursday does not go by without a Quran completed for someone, and no one is ever left without a khatam in their name.

These reports are widely transmitted in our tradition rather than traced chain by chain here; the khatam is offered in hope, not as a claim upon Allah.
